Overview

On the heels of their 50th anniversary, The Society of Experiential Graphic Designers needed to reinvent how to connect and engage current and potential members while showcasing world-class design to inspire.

The Challenge

Unfortunately, their existing platform lacked an intuitive or emotional journey. It worked more like a digital archive than a community site  encouraging connection, action, or inspiration. The tone and language on the site lacked a clear position or voice and therefore, resonance.  And, the presentation of the organization and work of the experience design community did little to inspire or engage a community of designers. Wide Eye identified the need for a digital facelift, and redesigned experience that elevated the unique value of this design community for members.

A Digital-Friendly Brand and Experience

Working alongside Pentagram and SEGD’s board of directors, we supported the reimagining of SEGD’s brand with a community-centric digital experience. The newly minted tagline—Designers of Experiences—created the foundation for a site narrative and content strategy that centers wonder and connection, and creates a platform for inspiration for the community.

Community Tested & Approved Navigation

SEGD is a global organization that is a source of inspiration, education, and community for over 2,000 members, countless clients, and many other designers. Content on the site exceeded 30,000 pages. Multiple iterations of user testing were conducted to ensure we had the right labels and content prioritized for SEGD’s audiences, while including a kitchen sink menu of all site content for those that knew what they were looking for.

Community Inspiration and Education

Ask any designer, finding inspiration or education is not a linear path. Sometimes you’re searching for that one thing you saw two months ago, other times you’re looking for a feeling. Since SEGD’s site was used as inspiration by designers and clients, we supported all the paths of discovery from curated collections to robust filtering.

An Inclusive, Inspiring Vision

Meet any one of SEGD’s members—from award-winning designers to interns—and you will experience a collaborative, inclusive spirit and a strong desire to create inspiring work. We thoughtfully used a museum-like approach, balanced with humanity and community to convey this. Bios were balanced with accolades and approachable details about members to encourage community.
