International Planned Parenthood Federation Western Hemisphere Region

The International Planned Parenthood Federation aims to improve quality of life by campaigning for sexual and reproductive rights, and providing advocacy and health services to people in need.

Pioneering Women's Health & Human Rights

In a region characterized by high rates of adolescent pregnancy and great income inequality, International Planned Parenthood Western Hemisphere Region works with a strong network of countries to empower people in need within the western hemisphere. IPPF/WHR also leverages advocacy opportunities to create an environment where policies and programs meet the real-life needs of local communities. In 2017, their partners provided 7.5 million people with nearly 36 million services, including contraception, breast and cervical cancer screenings, HIV/STI prevention and treatment services, and safe abortion.

Design Approach

Storytelling & a modern brand

IPPF/WHR approached Wide Eye seeking ways to elevate their brand, better organize their content, and create a more engaging digital presence to better speak to their various stakeholder, partnership, and affiliate nonprofit audiences. They were also challenged with finding a way to better engage their membership associations to tell their individual stories through the website.

We took a two-pronged approach to solve for IPPF/WHR’s unique needs:

1. Through a series of refined style tile exercises, we defined a new color palette, distinct typography, and custom graphics and imagery that visually reflect the regions they work in.

2. We then developed a modular UX approach with an emphasis on storytelling, built on a robust CMS that they could use to inspire membership associations to easily generate their own stories, keeping content fresh and relevant.

"I don't say this enough – but thank you! I'm using the new color palette and branding on some of our internal proposals and people are going bonkers over it – they love it."

The final product

An immersive home page experience

IPPF/WHR’s new home page tells the story of Beatriz Ramos Reyes, who runs a clinic in Ixtaltepec, Mexico operated by one of IPPF’s partners, Mexfam. Using captivating animations and evocative imagery, the site design slowly unfolds to tell the story of how this clinic was devastated by the 2017 earthquake. Bold colors and visual patterns capture the resilient energy of the community and clinic workers that rose up to help others despite the adversity they faced.
