Change Requires Bold Ideas

Economic Security Project

Economic Security Project advocates for ideas that build economic power for all Americans. Their team disburses grants, runs issue campaigns, develops creative interventions and research products, and convenes the field to advance our issues and turn bold ideas into reality.

Bringing people together around economic justice.

Overview:

The Economic Security Project advances bold ideas, like Guaranteed Income, in order to transform our economy and build economic power for all Americans. They believe in an America where everyone has the freedom and stability to thrive. More than just a think-tank or advocacy organization, they work from the grassroots to the grasstops to get policymakers and everyday thought leaders excited about transformative policy ideas. They find people best situated to create change and help them mobilize through grants, collaborations, research, and campaigns.

Our team collaborated with the Economic Security Project to create brand new visual identities and websites for both their c3 and c4 nonprofits. Our shared aim was to design a brand that could feel as at home in a state legislature as a community gathering; official but also authentic.

The Challenge:

The Economic Security Project had reached a level of maturity where their initial visual brand and online presence (designed at their founding in 2016) no longer matched the energy of their ideas. They were newly seeking ways to reach out to growing, changing audiences through both their c3 and c4 – aiming to build a more sophisticated digital communications strategy. And, they needed a dramatically updated digital presence that could both tell their story simply and show off their on-the-ground and legislative work and achievements.

The Spark

Both new visual identities use the inspiration of a “spark” to symbolize the organization’s innovative vision. The c3’s identity shows how a spark of an idea can ripple outward into communities, and the c4 visual identity (filling the negative space of the c3 logo) shows the literal “spark” of their grassroots work. We brought these visual identities to life through websites that tell ESP’s story and elevate content showing how policy and campaigns work together to bring bold ideas to life.

A Story and Index for Bold Ideas

The Economic Security Project’s c3 and c4 sites both tell the story of how the organization marries their policy work and organizing campaigns to bring bold ideas to life. On the c3 website, the focus is on pushing for ESP’s for bold economic ideas, making a case for each of the organization’s main focus areas and demonstrating the impact and efficacy of these solutions. And the c4 website shows how everyday people are supported by ESP’s core ideas through polling and campaign work. For both sites we developed a cohesive editorial collage illustration style to elevate and illuminate their work.
